Backgrounder?
When you walk the Corn Trail you'll be following in ancient footsteps; this is the original trail used by Aboriginal Australians as they made their seasonal travels between the coast and the tablelands. White settlers started to use this trail as a trade route in the 1800's. Teams of pack horses carried produce - usually corn - from the fertile farmlands of Buckenbowra Valley near the coast, to early European settlements near Braidwood.

The trail traverses a wide variety of landscapes, from high mountain ridges to deep rainforest filled valleys. You'll pass the gently flowing Buckenbowra River. Walk through verdant eucalypt forests, and see glimpses of the coastal ranges.

This is a difficult walk and you need to be well prepared. The best preparation you can do is organise a "car shuffle" before you go, so there's transportation waiting for you at the end of your long trek. There is a car park at the bottom of the trail; this is accessed via the Misty Mountain and No Name Mountain Roads. Misty Mountain Rd is a right-hand turn off the Kings Highway, 31 km south-east of Braidwood. The car park is 40 minutes off the highway.

Take food, water, sturdy footwear, and a small medical kit. It's also prudent to leave your itinerary with someone before your trek – just in case.
